The Delivery Boy left a bouquet of flowers with Deirdre Barlow in 1990. He caught Deirdre while she was having a chat on the doorstep with Liz McDonald. Having just told Liz that she didn't have any admirers at the moment, Deirdre looked like having to eat her words but when she read the card and found that the flowers were from Phil Jennings, owner of PJ Leisure against whom Deirdre was battling in her capacity as councillor for letting children into their arcades, she assumed they were meant as a sweetener. Shortly afterwards, Deirdre began dating Phil.
