Cabbyn County was founded around 1857. Vannan has served as the county seat since the late-1860s. Effington served as the county seat before Effington County's creation in the 1860s. In 1952, a tornado ripped through the county, destroying the town of Wilthouse, north of Vannan. The town managed to recover from nearly being wiped off the map.
