After the USS Sovereign had received a full refit and USS Dauntless crew has been transported to it, the Geronimo was assigned to perform wargames against the Sovereign to test her systems. After the Sovereign scored a victory, the Geronimo was joined by two Klingon B'rel-class birds-of-prey, IKS RanKuf and IKV Bowie'e which met the war game battle on the side of the Geronimo. The Geronimo later investigated Cardassian activity at the Prendel star system but was discovered and attacked before it could locate its objective. It took some serious damage and therefore had to stay for some time at Starbase 12 until getting a new assignment. The Geronimo was later severely damaged but not destroyed during the battle against Cardassian insurgents led by Legate Matan and his fleet of hybrid ships.
