The Black Pearls of Fu Leng were formed from a small piece of Tainted material aggravating the inside of an oyster or clam. The result was the creation of a Black Pearl, Tainted gems which had an ill effect on those who held them. The Pearls exerted a sinister fascination that made it very difficult for anyone to let them go. In the 12th century, Yasuki Funtaru recovered seven of these pearls, and he would use them to sow fear and discord in the Empire. Ichara devised special Puzzle Boxes, which had no solution, so the person trying to solve the box suffered the evil effects of the pearl within. Five boxes were made and the first became mad his holder, who killed his entire family.
