Called Project Frey during development, the Self Contained Medical Unit was created in response to the monopoly on bacta, kolto, & other highly effective healing substances. The design goal of the SCMU was to be both cheaper & more effective than either bacta or kolto. Unfortunately it only succeeded in one of its two goals. While it is significantly cheaper than either bacta or kolto, it is also far less effective. In appearance the SCMU looks like a 2 meter tall egg with ring of charge rods around the center (15), a hatch in one side & a small readout screen next to the hatch. The pod contains a dedicated power system & several other integrated systems, reducing its external requirement substantially.
