After Doomsday, the situation in Alaska was desperate. The nuclear bombs destroyed most of Alaska's military installations and larger cities, such as Anchorage and Fairbanks, and with them most military and political figures who could have taken control of the state. No contact was made with the mainland and remaining leaders were not sure how to proceed.
