Jose Padilla is a terrorist who was convicted of supporting Al-Qaeda after being held for three and a half years. He is believed responsible for gathering information necessary to detonate a dirty bomb in the United States. He was originally arrested in 2002 after returning from Pakistan and was quickly declared an enemy combatant and transferred to the Guantanamo Bay terrorist detention facility. The ACLU and other liberal groups attempted to have Padilla released on the grounds that he was a United States citizen, despite the fact that he conspired with America's enemies to kill American citizens.
