After the Hundred Year War, Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko established a fifth nation, the United Republic of Nations, from the former Fire Nation colonies within the Earth Kingdom. Its capital, Republic City, a large, modern metropolis, was settled on the shores of Yue Bay. The body of water made Republic City easily accessible for trade by water and it was instrumental in the growth of the city.
