The season also had the highest ACE of any hurricane season in the Atlantic. Nicholas was the first tropical storm to be retired since Allison in 2001, 20 years prior. Hurricanes Danny, Ida, Rose, and Teresa were retired. This season is tied with 2005 for having the most retired names. Hurricane Kaitlyn was the first hurricane to reach less than 900 mbar since Irma in 2017. Hurricane Kaitlyn became the third most intense hurricane behind Wilma and Irma.
