The AT-DR Walker was created as a combined effort between Trang Robotics and Kuat Drive Yards. Trang Robotics had a client in the outer rim who wanted a larger fighting droid capable of taking out light vehicles and moving over rugged terrain. The company contacted Kuat Drive Yards, the making of the galaxies most successful walkers and began a collaboration. The two companies used standard AT-PT frames to test the addition of droid brains. Through trial and error they finally found a suitably durable and intelligent droid brain. Afterwards they began working on the frame.
