Whether coming to Birthalis from the Inner Ocean or down the Blood River, ship captains are happy for the light provided by Overlook Tower. Throughout the night, a constant fire burns in the cylindrical dome. Below the dome the tower is an octagonal building with portals for soldiers to keep watch both over the water and the Lord's Square. Though a main purpose of the light is to help ships safely navigate waters around Birthalis, in times of need, it can be used to signal the royal navy up to 20 miles out. Some people believe the tower's also used to send coded messages to spies in Xitria.
