Lived: 1755-1804 A delegate of New York to the United States Constitutional Congress, Alexander Hamilton was interested in a strong federal government, one with life terms for its representatives and a monarch-like chief executive. Yet as the Constitution slowly became a reality, Hamilton became one of its staunchest proponents, forming the Federalist Party in favor of its ratification.
