Biddy Hakeswill was the mother of Obadiah Hakeswill. She died a year before her 12 year old son was unsuccessfully hanged, and was rescued from the scaffold by her brother, Obadiah's uncle (Sharpe's Tiger : Chapter 2). His mother was thereafter a much revered figure throughout the rest of his life.
