Mr Liston was the surgeon who broke the news to Emily Bishop that her husband Ernie had died following emergency surgery. This had been carried out due to gunshot wounds he sustained during a raid on the wages office at Baldwin's Casuals in January 1978. Liston told Emily that there was nothing they could have done.
