The 1987 The Winston was a Winston Cup (now Nextel Cup) event held at Lowe's Motor Speedway on May 17, 1987. It was the famous Pass in the Grass, as Dale Earnhardt held off a late charge by Bill Elliott and Geoffrey Bodine for the victory, surviving a scare when Elliott nearly turned Earnhardt into the infield.
