Bill Liebowitz (1941-2004) was the owner of Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles. He was a yo-yo champ himself in the 1950's and never lost his love of the hobby, even winning the over 55 years age group in the Sport Division at the 2000 US National Yo-Yo Contest. Bill helped form the yo-yo scene in Southern California by selling yo-yos at Golden Apple, by inviting pros to come demonstrate at the shop, and by sponsoring the Golden Apple Yo-Yo Corps. He also organized the Los Angeles Invitational Yo-Yo Expo beginning in 2001, which evolved into the current US Southwest Regional Contest. Bill Liebowitz passed away in 2004.
