Subplots are plots that take place within a story that centers around a different main plot. They ofter work as supporting side-stories to the main plot and can improve the overall quality of a story or book. They often involved supporting characters, not the protagonist or antagonist. In the Harry Potter books, the missing Weasley brother, Percy, is a subplot.
