A chemical rocket was a component of Earth propulsion technology used during the mid-22nd century. Earth shuttlepods were equipped with this technology. In 2154, Ensign Travis Mayweather had to fire up the chemical rockets of the shuttlepod he was piloting, in order to escape from Vulcan's atmosphere, while being pursued by patrol craft.
