Simon Madison Stewart (October 5, 1901 - December 8, 1988) was an American politician best known for serving as the Vice President of the United States in the Russell administration, completing a single term along with his superior. A liberal Democrat serving alongside a conservative Southern Democrat, the friction between the two men led many to believe Stewart would not have been on the 1956 ticket had Russell secured his party's nomination. Prior to the Vice Presidency, Stewart was the junior Senator from Wisconsin (1947-1952) and had served three terms (1941-1947) as that state's Governor. After leaving Washington, Stewart returned to Wisconsin and served an additional two terms as Governor (1959-1963).
