Ernie Ashcroft was a mechanic at the bus depot where Harry Hewitt was an inspector. In May 1961 Harry chatted to Ernie at a time when his personal life was fraught as his sister Alice Burgess had moved in with him in a housekeeping role and was in perpetual warfare with his daughter Lucille.
