An interrogator or interrogator module was a device that could emit a high-frequency electronic signal to starships. This signal caused the transponder of the targeted starship to broadcast its encoded ID profile, containing identifying information about the ship. Interrogators were frequently found in spaceport control towers and aboard military starships.
