Hairspray is a 2007 American musical romantic comedy filmed based on the 2002 musical of the same name (which was based on John Waters' 1988 film Hairspray) directed & choreographed by Adam Shankman, starring John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron, Allison Janney, Elijah Kelley and introducing Nikki Blonsky. The movie is adapted from John Waters' 1988 script and Thomas Meehan & Mark O'Donnell's book for the "Hairspray" stage musical written by Leslie Dixon.
