The Border War (officially branded as the M&I Bank Border Showdown) is the name of an intense rivalry between athletic teams from the University of Missouri and University of Kansas, the Missouri Tigers and the Kansas Jayhawks. The rivalry has its roots in the violent guerilla warfare between the states before, during, and after the American Civil War. As of 2012, no future games are scheduled, as Missouri departed the Big 12 for the Southeastern Conference on July 1, 2012.
