In the scrapped sequel to the Warrior Within, the Dark Prince was originally designed with flowing white hair. When the Prince is captured by the Vizier, Kaileena sacrificed herself to save the Prince from imprisonment. She re-released the Sands of Time, which infected the Prince. The Dark Prince was described as a separate spirit born of his "past battles" that would gradually posses the Prince's body and had a combat style that differed from the Prince's entirely.
