One of the six Infinity Stones created by the Cosmic Entities, the Space Stone possesses the power to transport one to any part of the universe. The Space Stone was placed inside an item that came to be known as the Tesseract, which was used by various civilizations like the Asgardians to achieve their ends before Odin hid away on Earth. But the Tesseract ended up in the possession of Red Skull with Hydras weapons being powered by its energies until it ended up in possession of the founding members of S.H.I.E.L.D. The Tesseract, after being used by Loki to enable the Chitauri invasion of Earth, was later brought back to Asgard by Thor.
