George La Forge was the first in a long line of distinguished Starfleet officers of the La Forge family. His descendants included Geordi La Forge. By 2165, La Forge was a captain in command of a starship in the Federation Starfleet. Admiral Jonathan Archer considered him among the captains he trusted out in the field.
