Wire Fleece is a type of Body Armor in Diablo II, it is the Elite version of Studded Leather. While its defense is superb and its strength requirement fairly low, the Archon Plate offers even more defense at an even lower strength requirement, and has no downsides compared to the Wire Fleece once its required level is reached.
