Dennis Pooley was the father of Rovers barmaid Tanya Pooley. He visited his daughter at the pub one morning in February 1994 before opening time. His visit was short and brusque: he dumped two suitcases full of her clothes on her and told her that he couldn’t stop her carrying on the way she was but he wasn’t going to have a slut living under his roof. Leaving the suitcases with her, he walked out. He had discovered her affair with a married man, Alex Christie. Tanya had no option but to move into Jim's Cafe flat which she had been renting for her liaisons with Alex.
