The Lorica Segmentata was ideal for armies on the march. This Light Armor was a set of metal plates made in four sections. Two sections crossed the shoulder to provide protection to the upper chest. They connected to the sections that provided protection to the stomach. This armor was generally worn with a padded under-garment underneath it. The Yodotai Legionnaire wore a white tunic and red cape over the armor. The helmet had two large cheek pieces that covered most of the face. The lorica segmentata was cheap to produce, light and easy to wear, easy to maintain and carry outside of combat. However, the lorica segmentata did not protect the legionnaire's arms and legs.
