The unnamed Police Officer was on patrol with another officer on 26th August 1963 on the A580 between Liverpool and Lancashire when they happened upon a noisy group of drinkers whose bus had broken down. As it was 2am, the weary officer warned them to keep the noise down but they laughed off his warning and Alf Roberts took his helmet as a joke. The officer detained the revellers until a prison van arrived and arrests were made.
