Wrath's mother died during his birth. Months before he was conceived, his mother was attacked by an unknown Red Lantern. Luckily, the Green Lantern John Stewart was nearby, and managed to take out the Red Lantern. His mother recovered from her injuries, but the rage essence from the Red Lantern remained in her body. When Wrath was born, the energy was transferred into his body. The strain caused by the transference of the rage energy was too much for her, and she tragically passed away.
