Wally Llewelyn was the curly-haired landlord of a pub in Mold. In May 1995, he served Jack Duckworth, who was spending the evening drinking at the pub after giving Vera the slip during a caravan holiday. They got chatting when Jack complimented Wally on his spirits. The subject then changed to the fiftieth anniversary of VE day and Jack's memories of being evacuated to Mold during the war. Wally then introduced Jack to Sid, a pub regular who had escaped from a German POW camp fifty years prior.
