The Cherenkov effect caused electromagnetic radiation to be emitted when a charged particle passed through an electrical insulator at a speed greater than the speed of light in that medium. This produced Cherenkov radiation, which included a visible effect of glowing blue light, although most of the radiation was within the ultraviolet range. An anti-matter bomb typically caused a Cherenkov effect.
