Methanol is a simple form of alcohol. Originally derived from the distillation of wood products, it is now produced by directly combining carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Although it is highly toxic (see Methanol poisoning). methanol has several industrial uses, including as a solvent in laboratories.
