When praised by Louis Kazagger for never having dropped a slice of toast during a pre-event interview, Dumpling modestly claims that the sportscaster is just buttering him up. Kazagger tries to stop him from tempting fate, but no sooner have the words left his mouth than a stray slice escapes from Gladys' toaster and knocks Dumpling in the head, causing him to drop his store and ruin his record.
