High Sheriff of Nottingham was the name of a character in Human mythology. Living in 12th century England, he was the chief law enforcement officer in the region around Nottingham and lived in Nottingham Castle. He was the adversary of Robin Hood, the leader of the Merry Men. As a result of the principles and actions of Robin Hood, he was viewed by the High Sheriff of Nottingham and his second-in-command Sir Guy of Gisbourne as being guilty of outlawry and treason and, as a consequence, they were constantly attempting to foil Robin Hood.
