William Marcus Thompson (24 April 1857 - 28 December 1907) was a barrister, journalist and local politician. Born in Londonderry, he was the son of Moses Thompson, a customs official and Elizabeth née Smith. Having written for the Derry Journal and Belfast Morning News, he moved to London in 1877 to work for the Standard. He also studied law and was called to the bar at the Middle Temple in 1880. In 1894 he became editor of Reynold's News, holding the post until his death. He died of bronchitis and pneumonia and was buried at Kensal Green Cemetery.
