A motion for reconsideration (or motion to reconsider) is a legal filing where a party to a lawsuit requests that the court to review a prior decision and consider issuing a new/different decision in light of that review. The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure do not expressly recognize motions for reconsideration. Instead, such motions are treated as a motion to alter or amend a judgment under 59(e) or motions for relief from judgments or orders under Rule 60(b).
