The Republic of Florida was recognized by France as a sovereign nation in 1897, as a part of the newly formed French Commonwealth, which includes much of North Africa, Indochina and the former Florida Territory. A representative democracy was formed from the remnants of the old government, and the new nation continues to defend against potential Mexican Invasion, an ever-present threat since the Mexican Revolution in 1821. They continue to receive foreign aid from France, as well as full military protection from invasion. The capital is Baton Rouge.
