The ancient Parthasarathi Temple, located in the Triplicane area (south-east) of Madras, was built in the 8th Century by Pallava kings in the Pallava_dynasty. Additions were later made during the Chola_dynasty (dates?) and later by the Vijayanagara_Empire, sometime in the 16th C. This temple is one of the 108 main "Vishnu Divya Desam" temples. The presiding Deity Parthasarathi is a form of Lord Krishna as Arjuna's chariot driver (sarathi), during the battle of Kurukshetra (said to have taken place around 3000 BC). (Parthasarathi's consort is Vedavalli Ammai. )
