Madeline Cowell was Lord Hilton's personal assistant, until her murder on his orders after she learnt of Hilton's ambition to get his son Sebastian to the position of Prime Minister. As revealing this news would probably have left her open to prosecution, she decided to leave the evidence to her housekeeper Sarah Thomas, with instructions to give it to Jason McLoud.
