Slovenia (sloh-VEE-nee-a), officially the Republic of Slovenia (Slovene: Slovenjia) was a country on the Adriatic Sea, and bordered Italy to the west, Austria, Croatia to the south and southeast, and Hungary to the northeast. It covered 20,273 square kilometers (7,827 sq mi) and had a population of 2.17 million. It was a parliamentary republic, and once a member of the European Union and NATO.
