Arthur Dent is the major overall protagonist of the science fiction comedy series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. He has been played by both Simon Jones (in the TV series) and by Martin Freeman in the 2005 film. Martin Freeman has also played John Watson in the BBC series of Sherlock Holmes and also Martin Freeman played Bilbo Baggins in Sir Peter Jackson's films.
