Dardanus is the son of Zeus and Electra in Greek mythology. Dardanus married Bataea, daughter of King Teucer, who reigned over those people who would come to be known as Trojans. He had two sons with Bataea; Ilus and Ericthonius. Dardanus founded a city, which he named after himself. This city later became known as Troy, after Dardanus' grandson. The Dardanelles, the narrow strait separating Europe and Asia by connecting the Aegean Sea and the Sea of Marmara, is named after Dardanus.
