The herb sack can be checked to find out how many different herbs it contains. By clicking it all herbs in inventory will be deposited in the herb sack unless it is full. The herb sack is useful for killing monsters that often drop valuable herbs, such as Flesh crawlers, aberrant spectres, and deviant spectres, since it only takes up one inventory slot. Any herbs placed in the Herb sack will disappear upon death to an NPC! For this reason, it is advised that the player not lose focus when killing dangerous monsters like Deviant Spectres, or their whole trip's herbs could be lost.
