That evening, Ryoma return home. Nanjiroh comments he came home early. He asks if Ryoma has eaten yet but is ignored. Ryoma goes outside and practices tennis against the wall. He hits the tennis balls so hard that it ripped the ball. Ryoma realises that Ryoga was watching him. After some small talk Ryoga offers a chance to defeat Byodoin by joining the American team. This reveals that Ryoga was an American Representative all along.
