A root is a state effect that keeps a target in one place for a short period of time. This can be effective in PvE and PvP in order to escape the combat range of the target. When fighting a melee combat opponent with a ranged weapon, rooting the opponent is an excellent tactic to gain an edge in the battle. An example of a combat special that roots a target would be Pistoleer's "Stopping Shot". Specials that root have a long timer so that a player cannot activate it repeatedly. Several players may apply the state to a single target, however, keeping the target immobile.
