The Field of Braves was originally inhabited by the Navajo Indians. At one time, a prospector named Jed Stone dug up their burial mound and found an artefact in the shape of a golden bird. After that, the gold rush than commenced, with ruffians slaughtering the native indians, and set up a town, Slaughter Gulch, with Jed himself as the leader of the town.
