A service of the Conseil Général of the French departement of the Ardennes, based in Charleville-Mézières. It suffered much damage in the two World Wars. One of the first departmental archives in France to make use of microfilm, in 1948. It is currently making increasing use of the internet to allow access to its documents and add value to its patrimony. The archives were created under the law of 5 Brumaire an V (26 October 1796).
