Claude Desmarais was elected to Parliament in August 3308. He lost his seat in September 3317, after having served four terms. In early 3318, Desmarais was appointed Chancellor of the College of Halonen-Nyrup. He remained Chancellor until 3331 when he stepped down to run for Parliament. His 13 year tenure was the longest in university history.
